Parsons Music Library Student Employment

The Music Library is located on the second floor between the Booker Hall of Music and the Modlin Center for the Arts. Operating hours for Parsons Music Library are: M-Th: 8:00am - 11:00pm; Fri: 8:00am - 5:00pm; Sat: 2:00pm - 5:00pm; Sun: 2:00pm - 11:00pm.

Position Types

Music Library Student Assistant

Student assistants use a computer to check library materials in and out, answer simple reference questions in person and over the telephone, and refer patrons to other library personnel as appropriate. Other duties include shelving returned materials, reading shelves on a regular basis, and processing new CDs and journal issues. A musical background is helpful, but not required.

Pay and Hours

$7.60 / hour; 6 - 10 hours / week in two- or three-hour shifts during the library's operating hours.

Music Library Student Manager (we are not currently accepting applications for this position)

Student managers perform all the duties of a student assistant. Additionally, managers open and close the library on weekends and evenings and observe student assistants, providing constructive feedback when needed.

Pay and Hours

$8.10 for hours worked before 5:00 p.m. Mon - Fri.
$8.60 during evenings after 5:00 p.m. / weekends) 6 - 10 hours / week in two- or three-hour shifts during the library's operating hours.

All managers are selected from existing staff.

Music Library Student Consultant (we are not currently accepting applications for this position)

The student consultant creates and maintains streaming audio reserves for all courses. He or she also assists with the repair and physical processing of music scores. The consultant is selected from existing staff.

Pay and Hours

$8.60/ hour; work hours determined in consultation with the music librarian. May be combined with the student manager position.
