Special Borrowers and Community Borrowers

Boatwright Memorial Library is open for use by members of the Richmond area community, especially to provide access to members of the general public who cannot find the specialized material they need elsewhere. For borrowing information, refer to the categories below. Access to computers and electronic access is limited, due to university network security concerns and to heavy student use of library computers. However, computer guest accounts for library research needs can be requested at the library's main service desk. Access to U.S. government information in any format is available for the general public.

Special Borrower Regulations

The privilege of borrowing materials belongs only to the individual registered. Please do not expect to check out materials for friends or members of your family or "loan" them your card.
General public registration is limited to residents (18 and older) residing in the Richmond metropolitan area and surrounding counties. A valid ID required.
Circulating Items: books, most government publications, music scores, recorded books, musical recordings.
Non-circulating items: special collections and rare books, reserves, reference materials, microforms, periodicals, study room keys, video/DVD, media equipment and interlibrary loan services.
Fines: Please return materials on time. Fines will be assessed and those who do not pay fines over $15.00 or return overdue material within 60 days may have borrowing privileges suspended.
Borrowing privileges are usually extended for one year with the exception of high school students and RALC borrowers; however, special circumstances may alter this time period.
