Whaling Journal Transcribathon

In celebration of “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” please join us in exploring and transcribing the writings of Vernon Guyon Locke, an accused pirate during the American Civil War. Begin the morning with the story of the discovery of the pirate’s writings in the mid-19th century ship’s journal, and then stay to help us transcribe Locke’s very own words - who knows what you might find!

This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Registration is required by September 9th. Coffee and breakfast pastries will be provided, generously sponsored by the Friends of Boatwright Memorial Library.

Where: B26, Boatwright Memorial Library, University of Richmond
When: September 19th, 2016; 9:30 AM - Noon
