Using the Collections

Galvin Rare Book Room

Book Arts, Archives, and Rare Books welcomes students, faculty, staff, and other researchers to use the collections for both research and instruction purposes.

General Research Use

The Galvin Rare Book Room is currently open for research by appointment only. Rare book and archival materials are made available to researchers but cannot be checked out or removed from the room. Researchers will be required to read and sign a researcher use form. Depending on the condition of the materials, in many cases digital cameras may be used, but arrangements can be made for digital reproductions as well. Rare books may be located through the library catalog and archival materials can be found at archives.richmond.edu. To schedule a research appointment, please email archives@richmond.edu. We kindly ask that materials be requested at least 48 hours in advance.

Instruction Use:

We welcome and encourage class visits to the Rare Book Room to facilitate student engagement with these materials. If you are a student interested in working on an assignment or project, please come talk with the archivists during open hours or request an appointment.
